This last week, two scientific studies were released proving once again that supplementation can be highly beneficial.
The first study, performed by the Victor Chang Institute, found that taking a supplement of Vitamin B3 (Niacin) can significantly decrease the risk of miscarriages and birth defects during pregnancy.
It was discovered that the molecule NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is often lacking in pregnancies that ended with miscarriage or birth defects. The study showed that by taking a Vitamin B3 supplement (a precursor to the production of NAD) many miscarriages and birth defects can be prevented.
The findings of this study could potentially help millions of women throughout the world. While the initial findings of the study are very encouraging, further study needs to be done to reinforce the findings.
While further research still needs to be performed, there is no risk in taking a Vitamin B3 supplement before and during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, or are already pregnant, you may want to consider taking a B3 supplement.
The second study which we will briefly mention is the conclusion of a study into treating peanut allergy in children.
The protocol for treating the allergic reaction to peanuts involved patients taking a daily dose of peanut protein in conjunction with a probiotic supplement.
Researchers have found that four years after treatment, 70% of participants were still able to consume peanuts without any allergic reaction.
While this study is only into peanut allergy, the protocol involving the use of probiotics is being investigated for potential treatment of other food allergies.
Once again, supplements and using what nature has already given us has been shown to be beneficial and effective. A win for the natural health industry!
